Gropius House

Parlor Chandelier

The brass six arm chandelier, made in Holland or Germany around 1880, was likely installed when the house was built. It’s fitted with period-appropriate replicas of Edison-type bulbs that have what are known as “squirrel-cage” filaments. The Eustis family built their own power plant and brought electricity into the house in 1902. They would have refitted their chandeliers for electricity soon afterwards.
