Bequest of Susan B. Norton
Briolette-cut (faceted teardrop) amethysts are suspended from large natural pearls in this pair of earrings made by New York City jewelers Black, Starr & Frost. Lavender was an acceptable color for the final three months of mourning, so amethysts and pearls were the perfect complement to Sara Norton’s attire, visible in the large portrait on the wall.
