Celebrate: Brooch

Lawrence Rhoades was a Providence bookkeeper by trade who rose to become a brevet colonel in the Civil War. After the war he made his wife several love tokens. Among them was this extraordinary brooch, carved from tortoiseshell and set with his photograph.
