Birthday Card: Lisbeth Birman, 1953

Lisbeth Birman was introduced to the ideas of the Bauhaus at a lecture given by Walter Gropius in Berlin in 1925. The next year, she enrolled in the Dessau Bauhaus, where she studied textiles in the weaving workshop until she graduated in 1930. She worked as a textile designer in Amsterdam until the Nazi Regime ordered her to the Westerbork Transit Camp. She survived the war, and went on to maintain friendships with many Bauhauslers.
