Gropius House

Birthday Card: Ise Gropius, 1943

Shown relaxing in a lawn chair at home, Gropius’s wife, Ise, frames her portrait with bluebird feathers, their favorite American bird. The Gropiuses loved their new home in Lincoln, Massachusetts, in part because the wildlife was so prevalent and visible. They placed bluebird boxes throughout the property and would delight when a nesting pair took up residence.
