Bed Chamber Curtains

William Morris designed this pattern in 1885 and named it “Strawberry Thief” after the birds who ate the strawberries in the kitchen garden in his former home in Oxfordshire. Its production required a complicated indigo resist dye process that took the Morris Company years to perfect. This pattern is the first that used reds and yellow in addition to the blue of the indigo dye. It became one of Morris’s most popular.
