Photos Through the Years

Photographer Paul Davis shot a series of images of the newly constructed house in 1938.

From the time construction began through the present day, the Gropiuses’ home has been the subject of countless photographs. Ranging from formal house portraits intended for glossy magazines to snapshots taken by people driving by, the photographic record of the house is more complete than any other in Historic New England’s collection. The following galleries offer zoomable views into some of the professional and amateur photographs taken during the early years just after construction, the middle years as the house and landscape began to mature, and some of our favorites taken recently.
