Transformations on a Scheme, No 7
Josef Albers created “Transformations on a Scheme, No 7” in 1949 and presented it to Walter Gropius for his 70th birthday in May 1953. Inscription on the back reads “To Walter Gropius/May 1953 A.”
Josef Albers was an influential member of the Bauhaus faculty, 1923-1933, whose work in the development of the foundation coursework of the Bauhaus (known as the “Vorkurs”) has left a profound impact on art education to this day. His influence as an art educator continued in the United States as a faculty member of the experimental institution known as Black Mountain College and at Yale University.
