Nesting Tables
While well-known as an architect in his own right, Breuer’s influence on furniture design is perhaps his greatest legacy. His experiments in tubular bent steel brought flexible, cantilevered tables/seating to the mass market. The origin story is that his Adler bicycle, with curved tubular steel handlebars, inspired Breuer’s choice of material. His legacy as an important 20th century modern design in the realms of architecture, furniture, and teaching is still felt today. There tables were produced in the Bauhaus workshops.
