Guest Book

Starting in 1924, the Gropiuses kept a guest book that recorded visitors to their home. The first entries are made in Germany and after a brief hiatus while the Gropiuses were “on leave” in London, the book picks up again in 1939 at the Lincoln house. In the 1950s their friends become more international as their circle of friends start to include visitors from Asia and South America. The book is filled with photos, poems, memories, sketches, and even a watercolor portrait of Gropius by Joan Miró. The small, well-worn book provides an intimate look at the Gropiuses’ lives through the people who visited them, both friends and family.
